What if my battery falls out while android is running? *ANY DEVICE*

I've dropped my phone today while it was running. I was only using a mobile browser.
Are there any precautionary steps, diagnostics, or procedures to repair my operating system?
Does it make a difference in how my android ROM operates in the future?
Should it only cause issues if I was installing software, or writing to the internal or external SD?
