Ok, I know about the Stage Fright virus. I have OS 4.6.1 and don't feel like upgrading to 4.6.3 and having to re-root and possibility bumping into other problems. That being said, the Stage Fright virus uses the SMS app's vulnerability which auto downloads any SMS. However, I never use SMS. In fact I have all text/SMS apps on my phone frozen. What I do use is Google Voice which doesn't directly support SMS. However, when I receive one, I do get a text in Google Voice indicating I have received an SMS but I have to log onto my mail, which in this case is K9, and download the attachment manually by clicking a button just to view it.
So, all that being said, I know it is probably best to upgrade to 4.6.3 and bite the bullet but in my case it doesn't look like the Stage Fright virus even effects me. Even if I were to download the Stage Fright virus via K9 mail would the vulnerability still work that way or does it have to open in an SMS app?
Regardless, I wouldn't randomly download and open attachment from an unknown number.
Could I get some clarification on this?
Thanks!
