Sony repair absolute nightmare!

Sent my broken phone to Sony...

Because it was rooted, they said they will destroy it and give me absolutely NOTHING back unless I pay them to send the broken device back... WTF do I do now? :( Anyone else had this before? Is this even legal in Europe??
