New to flashing

Hey! So I've had very little experience in flashing custom roms and I have a question. I have a Verizon Nexus 6 (Verizon branded), I know that besides the stamp on the back its the exact same phone as the one directly from the google store or motorola. If I flash a google factory image onto it will I start getting OTA updates directly from google instead of waiting for Verizon's un-godly long updates as long as I don't mess with rooting it or installing a custom recovery. Also will I be able to flash back the Verizon rom and get Verizons OTA's if i ever decide for some reason I need to and also, where would I find the Verizon roms for it? I know where to find googles factory roms but not verizons. Thank you for all your help, I've switched from iPhone 6 and have always jailbroke it so I need all the help I can get with this. :)
