Model renamed!

It might be just the noobish me freaking out , but is it okay for different E98X models (E988 in my case) to be renamed to E980 after flashing the recovery/custom rom?
Also When I try to install madmack's modem on Blisspop 3.9 it soft bricks!
Please try to aid me here
