Internal compiler error segmentation fault

Noob Linux user here with a quick question. I am compiling CyanogenMod for Bacon and receive the error of segmentation fault while compiling. The build would stop so I would just exit and try again. Yesterday I started the build and when I got that error I just did brunch bacon again and the build started where it left off. This happened 4 or 5 times but in the end the build completed and is working great on my One. So the question is how do I prevent that and is it a common thing?
