HTC Mail app issue

I'm using the lollipop 5.02 version of the stock mail app. One big issue I have is that it will not let you compose an email without first entering a subject, even if you tap in the compose field. This is very frustrating. Is it possible to remove this restriction by modifying the apk and if so is there a modded apk already or would someone be willing to try?
