While trying to do this, I could only find posts saying that it's impossible for now on the Verizon M8. So I found a way...
I used Kingroot (PC version, as the Android app didn't work for me) to achieve a temporary, unreliable root. It would go away after 1 or 2 reboots.
Root with Kingroot, then run Sunshine and pony up the because those guys are brilliant.
Sunshine made the phone reboot and I lost root, so Sunshine couldn't finish the job.
So I re-rooted with Kingroot and tried Sunshine again and it worked.
I really hope others can have the same success from my experience, and maybe even Sunshine can use this info to incorporate a smoother process into their app.
I have been using info here on XDA for years but never had anything to contribute until now. So please excuse me if this post seems noobish or is in the wrong section :)
