Flash ROM to recalled tablet - avoid brick

I was thinking about flashing a different version/ROM to my tablet in an attempt to try and avoid the bricking of the original Y01 device after I receive my new one. I know, it is very selfish... I have never had any heat issues (and i don't take advantage of the gaming power of the tablet - i just use it primarily like a regular tablet).

Has anyone tried - or considered trying - this? Seems like nvidia would make it foolproof... but just thought i'd see what people out there are thinking about this idea.
