As Facebook works towards pushing its business initiative, the company is all set to announce a new standalone mobile news application. Currently in alpha, the application will be a means to broadcast breaking news and will have character limits similar to Twitter.
Business Insider reports that Facebook is initially partnering with a select number of publications. When said publication issues an update, it will be blasted out to all users who have subscribed to that publication or to a general topic on that interest area. Clicking the link will take you to the publications website. The service sounds and clearly works a lot like Twitter. However, restricting it to a curated list of publications and avoiding social crosstalk by users themselves could make this an interesting rival to the likes of Flipboard and Pulse.
