Disable google play self-update

Hello, I'm looking for a way to stop Google Play Store from auto-updating itself.
The reason I want to do this is because I get the "There is insufficient space on the device" error when I try to install/update an app using google play, but if I uninstall google play updates then I can install/update normally..
