Can you go from KitKat to Android M directly.

I am on KitKat 4.4.4 and don't really want to go to Lollipop 5.1 unless it would prevent me from receiving an OTA for Android M, assuming it would ever be offered to Verizon Droid Turbo customers. I don't really want this to be a war about what is better Lollipop or KitKat, I prefer KitKat but I would like to know if Lollipop can be skipped altogether. Than you in advanced for your advise and input.
