Q? What file or registry entry tells apps what device you are using

OK so here is the deal I have several HTC devices and using Slingplayer mobile v1.6 with Factory roms gives me Remote and landscape from within the app, However all these same devices with custom roms gives me neither of these options, the devices work ok just no way to get to landscape view or the remote. So there has to be a file somewhere that tells the slingplayer app what the device is or a way to fix the installs to enable these functions.
